It seems like a new product goes viral on TikTok every few days. At one point, it was the e.l.f. Cosmetics Powerless Putty Face Primer that had users on the app in a complete chokehold, and shortly after, the K18 Biomimetic Molecular Repair Hair Mask—a previous Women’s Health beauty award winner!—managed to boost peoples interest in bond-building products that repair damage from the inside out. Then, it was the Braun IPL Pro 5—a hair removal device that people were clamoring over.
It goes without saying that, now, there’s a new product beauty enthusiasts are obsessed with—the FHI Heat UNbrush Detangling Hair Brush—and after scrolling past a few dozen reviews of it on my For You page, I decided to take the plunge and try it out for myself.
Spoiler: it didn’t disappoint.
TikTok doesn’t always manage to convince me to make impulse purchases, but I’ve officially hopped onto the #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt trend with this brush—and it absolutely lives up to the hype.
The features that make the FHI Heat UNbrush so cool
The UNbrush Detangling Brush is actually a fairly simple tool to wrap your head—and hands—around. It’s made with 58 long bristles to help detangle the hair, and 47 mini bristles for smoothing.
It comes in a variety of colors and the paddle is backless, which is meant to reduce styling time by allowing more airflow. The brush also feels super lightweight in your hands, and its design makes cleaning the brush so easy.
It can be used on wet or dry hair, but since I have very tight 4C curls, I only brush my hair when it’s wet or covered in a conditioner or leave-in product.
How I used the FHI Heat UNbrush
I used this one while detangling my hair in the shower; I saturated my hair with my favorite deep conditioner before separating it into four sections and brushing out each one, starting with my ends and working my way up to my roots. Even with the brushes I’ve come across that make detangling so much less of a pain, it still takes me a minute to get through my whole head.
The UNbrush made the process feel almost effortless, and I was able to get through my whole head in just a few minutes.
The bottom line: Is the FHI Heat UNbrush worth buying?
That’d be an emphatic “yes.”
I’ve tried a lot of detangling brushes, and while I have my favorites, I’ve never had an easier time detangling my very tight curls as I did while using this brush. It has a very simple design, yet the spaced out bristles glide through my hair almost like butter, and the handle is super easy to grip and doesn’t slip out of my hand while using it—even when it’s covered in conditioner and product. This brush gets the job done without pulling on my curls.
